Alsaker Fjordbruk is acquiring the aquaculture operations of Fishglobe Technologies through the purchase of the company Ryfish. At the same time, Alsaker will establish a new visitor centre at the entrance to Lysefjorden, where closed FishGLOBE technology will be used for post-smolt production and showcased to visitors.

Ryfish was established by Fishglobe Technologies in 2019 to develop and test the FishGLOBE technology in commercial operation.

The transaction marks a clear shift for Fishglobe Technologies, which is sharpening its role as a technology provider, while the collaboration with Alsaker Fjordbruk ensures continued access to operational experience and production.

A new visitor centre for aquaculture

The visitor centre will provide the public with a unique insight into modern aquaculture. With a short walking distance from shore, visitors will be able to experience closed units up close, associated sea sites in the area, combined with a modern centre designed for learning and dissemination.

– The objective is to create a place where people can get close to the industry and experience the different technologies on which today’s aquaculture is built. This will increase knowledge about Norwegian aquaculture today and how it can be further developed in the future using both open and closed technologies, says Kristian Råsberg, Public Relations Manager at Alsaker Fjordbruk.

The location at the entrance to Lysefjorden makes the facility a particularly attractive arena for showcasing Norwegian aquaculture. The area is one of Norway’s most visited fjord regions and provides local residents, schools and visitors with a unique opportunity to experience the industry up close. The Lysefjord Centre will be the location of Alsaker Fjordbruk’s aquaculture visitor centre.

– Alsaker Fjordbruk is an operator with strong production expertise and a clear focus on quality and fish welfare. For us, this is an ideal partner to demonstrate how FishGLOBE works in practice, both in production and in meetings with customers and visitors, says Steffen Klemetsen Jakobsen of Fishglobe Technologies.

Strengthening production between land and sea

Since 2019, Fishglobe Technologies has produced more than 6 million post-smolt in Lysefjorden through its aquaculture operations in Ryfish.

– The collaboration gives us the opportunity to combine production in open cages and closed units, and to further develop our understanding of how post-smolt production at sea can help strengthen production in open cages, says Kristian Råsberg of Alsaker Fjordbruk.

The collaboration also provides Fishglobe Technologies with an important arena to demonstrate to both Alsaker Fjordbruk and other stakeholders how the technology performs in practice – both operationally and economically.

– Ryfish has been an important development arena for us and has provided the experience and documentation we need. Therefore, this is a natural time to sharpen our role as a technology provider and take a clearer commercial step. The collaboration with Alsaker Fjordbruk allows us to build further on our experience together with a highly competent partner, while maintaining our local presence in Lysefjorden, concludes Tor Magne Madsen, Managing Director of Fishglobe Technologies.
